About the Course:

Music Improv: Styles and Genres

8-week course - 1 day/week - 2.5 hours/class (20 Hours)

Taught be Riff's own Keenan Camp, this class is part musical improv class, part music appreciation class. Students will learn about, and how to improvise in, a variety different styles/genres of music, beyond the musical theatre styles more commonly taught. Each class will be dedicated to a specific styles/genres, where the focus will be learning about the vocabulary, themes, physicality, movement, and staging within that week’s styles/genres. This class will also be strongly focused on solo and duet numbers. To be more concise, this is music improv, not musical improv. The goal is to get students to a place where they feel comfortable creating a variety of songs closer to those one might hear on the radio, rather than the stage.

Prerequisite: Must have taken Musical Improv 2 or equivalent.

This class will culminate in a student showcase at The Annoyance on 7/30/23

THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES 5/28-6/1 (Memorial Day), 6/25-6/29 (Pride), 7/2-7/6 (4th of July).

SAFETY NOTE: During the COVID-19 pandemic, all in-person classes (including this one) will require that all students and teachers be vaccinated and provide proof.

SAFETY NOTE: Due to the enclosed nature and poor ventilation of our studio spaces, face masks are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED, though not required.
